We celebrate Menstrual Hygiene Day on every 28th of May

We celebrate Menstrual Hygiene Day on every 28th of May, the day is crucial in breaking the silence and stigma surrounding menstruation.

Menstruation, despite its essential role in reproduction,is often shrouded in taboo and misinformation.

And if not addressed, the cultural stigmas, misinformation and myths can lead to feelings of shame, exclusion, and discomfort among young girls which might in turn result to repercussions such as: infections, school absenteeism, and decreased participation in daily activities, thereby perpetuating gender inequalities.

The observance of this day is to stress the importance of proper menstrual hygiene management, address period poverty and the misinformation about menstruation in order to improve the health, education of women and girls and their overall empowerment.

At Ladies Connect Initiative, we are partnering with El-Shaddai Comprehensive College to commemorate the world menstrual hygiene day with them.
